Celebrities in a boat. Bavaria CEO Jens Ludmann welcomed the who's who of the German sailing scene to the official presentation of the new sport version of the Cruiser 40 on Sunday afternoon.
Sailing pro Tim Kröger hosted the presentation, Eberhard Magg expressed his delight that the 40 S will be used as the new boat for the Match Race Germany this year, and top matcher Markus Wieser then busily handed out autographs to his fans. However, the fact that the Bavaria Cruiser 40 Sport is also available to everyone was almost overlooked. The Giebelstadt-based company has put together a complete, well-rounded and obviously very well thought-out package of options for the basic boat.
This includes a whole range of performance-focussed additional features for sporty use, more performance and more active sailing. For example, a traveller in the cockpit, the double-sided German Cupper mainsheet system with larger winches, line-adjustable hull points, a carbon fibre spinnaker pole and the hydraulic backstay tensioner. The sports version also has a longer, tapered Seldén mast with race boom and a performance keel with 30 centimetres more draught
The shipyard has also made substantial weight savings. The bathing platform and cockpit table have been completely removed from the sports version, and the sandwich structure of the hull has also been optimised. The structural engineering measures will later be incorporated into the series production of all models in the current Cruiser range. The sports package for the Cruiser 40 costs an extra €17,850 on top of the standard price of €129,590.
The first seven Bavaria Cruiser 40 S models will now be used in the Match Race Germany from 23 to 29 May 2011 in Langenargen on Lake Constance, where they will immediately be put to the test. From a sporting point of view, the use of the new Bavaria yachts greatly enhances our traditional event. We are very pleased to be able to provide the best skippers in the world with good, brand-new boat material, said organiser Eberhard Magg.
The collaboration between the organisers of the Mach Race Germany and Bavaria Yachtbau is now in its seventh year. Previously, the prestigious event was organised on Bavaria 35 Match yachts.
